Give incompetent teachers 12 months to upgrade, Zazzau c’ttee tells El-Rufai
A group, Mainan Zazzau Communication Committee has called on Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state to give teachers adjudged incompetent a grace of six to 12 months to update their knowledge and skills rather than outrightly sacking them. A statement signed by the secretary of the committee, Ibrahim Adamu Zango, described the sack threat over 21,000 teachers as a huge setback to the rule of law and natural justice. It would be recalled that 21,780 out of 33,000 primary school teachers were said to have failed the primary four exam conducted by the state government to test their competency, and the state government began shopping for 25,000 teachers to replace those who failed.
The committee said those who do not make the requisite qualifications after the grace period may then be dismissed but they must be paid all entitlements specified in their terms of service. The committee said while Kano and Sokoto governments had fashioned remedial programmes to train and re-train under- qualified teachers, Governor El-Rufai had chosen a “totally unacceptable” way.
The committee added that the drive for a better education system must not end with the quality of teachers. “We know that till date, pupils in 50 percent of public schools in the state sit on the floor due to absence of furniture. Most of the 4,250 public primary schools have no doors, roofs and windows. There are also no water and toilet facilities. Some of the schools are heavily over-populated. All these are fundamental problems that militate against good education for the teeming masses.
They need to be tackled urgently if the government is really serious about reforming the system,” the committee said.

Sunday 26 November 2017
Statement of resignation of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa) Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 from the All Progressives Congress
On the 19th of December, 2013, I received members of the All Progressives Congress at my house in Abuja. They had come to appeal to me to join their party after my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had become factionalized as a result of the special convention of August 31, 2013.
The fractionalization of the Peoples Democratic Party on August 31, 2013 had left me in a situation where I was, with several other loyal party members, in limbo, not knowing which of the parallel executives of the party was the legitimate leadership.
It was under this cloud that members of the APC made the appeal to me to join their party, with the promise that the injustices and failure to abide by its own constitution which had dogged the then PDP, would not be replicated in the APC and with the assurance that the vision other founding fathers and I had for the PDP could be actualized through the All Progressives Congress.
It was on the basis of this invitation and the assurances made to me that I, being party-less at that time, due to the fractionalization of my party, accepted on February 2, 2014, the hand of fellowship given to me by the All Progressives Congress.
On that day, I said "it is the struggle for democracy and constitutionalism and service to my country and my people that are driving my choice and my decision" to accept the invitation to join the All Progressives Congress.
Like you, I said that because I believed that we had finally seen the beginnings of the rebirth of the new Nigeria of our dreams which would work for all of us, old and young.
However, events of the intervening years have shown that like any other human and like many other Nigerians, I was fallible.
While other parties have purged themselves of the arbitrariness and unconstitutionality that led to fractionalization, the All Progressives Congress has adopted those same practices and even gone beyond them to institute a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy within the party and the government it produced.
Only last year, a governor produced by the party wrote a secret memorandum to the president which ended up being leaked. In that memo, he admitted that the All Progressives Congress had "not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected overnight ‘change’ but has failed to deliver even mundane matters of governance".
Of the party itself, that same governor said "Mr. President, Sir Your relationship with the national leadership of the party, both the formal (NWC) and informal (Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso), and former Governors of ANPP, PDP (that joined us) and ACN, is perceived by most observers to be at best frosty. Many of them are aggrieved due to what they consider total absence of consultations with them on your part and those you have assigned such duties."
Since that memorandum was written up until today, nothing has been done to reverse the treatment meted out to those of us invited to join the All Progressives Congress on the strength of a promise that has proven to be false. If anything, those behaviours have actually worsened.
But more importantly, the party we put in place has failed and continues to fail our people, especially our young people. How can we have a federal cabinet without even one single youth.
A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people.
I admit that I and others who accepted the invitation to join the APC were eager to make positive changes for our country that we fell for a mirage. Can you blame us for wanting to put a speedy end to the sufferings of the masses of our people?
Be that as it may be, after due consultation with my God, my family, my supporters and the Nigerian people whom I meet in all walks of life, I, Atiku Abubakar, Waziri Adamawa, hereby tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress while I take time to ponder my future.
May God bless you and may God bless Nigeria.

Atiku’s resignation: Senator Sani reveals what will happen to APC, warns Buhari of cabal
Nov 25, 2017 12:00 PM
The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has warned that what destroyed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2015 could also tear the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC apart.
The Senator also pointed out that the APC governors, who recently endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for reelection acted on their selfish interest.
Sani spoke in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Friday at the second annual lecture of Rave FM.
The senator said the governors were not sincere but were looking for a cover after they might have left office.
He said, “The ruling party should know that what destroyed the PDP was a force from inside and not from outside . It was like a case of Yugoslavia in the old Soviet Union. Lack of internal democracy and imposition destroyed the PDP.
“The umbrella of the PDP was torn by the internal injustice. The ruling party should be careful.
“Many people who helped in bringing this administration on board are not being carried along. Now, Atiku has left the APC for the PDP. Those that contributed to this government before getting to power were not accorded courtesy.”
Sani added, “It is left for Buhari to decide who loves him and who loves the throne.
“For Buhari to be rescued from the claws of the cabal, he needs the concerted efforts of all Nigerians, regardless of their religion, tribe and political parties.”

Statement of Atiku's resignation:
Atiku Abubakar

We must save future generations from ignorance, El-Rufai tells Kaduna NASS members
…says 43, 806 applied for teaching job
Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has called on National Assembly members from Kaduna State to help save future generations from servitude by ensuring that quality public education is offered in the state.
El-Rufai made this call in Abuja on Wednesday while holding a regular consultative meeting with members of the National Assembly from the state. The governor also informed the lawmakers that the state government has received 43, 806 applications from prospective teachers in public primary schools in the state.
He explained that all shortlisted applicants will be subjected to oral and practical examinations, to be followed by interview and final verification to ascertain the authenticity of their qualifications. Those who scale through will undergo training on teaching before their deployment to classrooms to teach.
“The issue of ensuring quality and competent teachers in public schools is something crucial and doable, but it requires courage, sincerity and honesty as guiding principles.
“We are all products of quality public schools and can compete anywhere in the world; we are beneficiaries of quality education from public schools and we have achieved a lot from the sacrifices made by previous leaders.
“Having benefitted from quality public education, we must be committed to reviving our public schools. The unqualified teachers that are being replaced will get all their rights and entitlements.
“This reform is necessary hard work, and will not be derailed by propaganda, blackmail, and deliberate misrepresentation of facts.
“Reform is not restricted to recruiting and retaining competent teachers. We are constructing and reconstructing schools, class rooms, updating the curriculum, providing facilities and teaching aids and teachers’ welfare.
“We removed the career barrier for teachers in 2015. Teachers in Kaduna State can rise to Grade Level 17 (Permanent Secretary grade) without having to stop being teachers.
The governor thanked the lawmakers for their immense support irrespective of political parties.
“We all agreed that we must pursue this cause as a path to free present and future generations. There is no future for a country that consigns most of its people to ignorance. The key issue here is that we must make sacrifices and provide our children and future generations a quality of education that can give enhance their life prospects, and guarantee self-reliance for all our people. This can only be feasible with quality education in all our public schools at primary and secondary levels.”
Rt. Hon. Yakubu Umar Barde, the Minority Whip in the House of Representatives, led the Kaduna State National Assembly delegation to the meeting. He assured the governor that they will continue to work assiduously with the governor in championingthe progress and development of Kaduna state.
Signed
Samuel Aruwan
